Same for me -- I'm tepid on both mens' series, but enjoy very much (most of)
their standalones. For those who haven't read Hamilton, Hard Case Crime
released a reprint of one of his better standalones a couple years ago that
should be easy to track down. The plot's a bit strained, but the writing's
solid and the pace is terrific.
