Has anyone read Tom Epperson's THE KIND ONE, a hardboiled'ish noir set in 1930's Hollywood? I stumbled across it a couple days ago at a local used bookstore, and it looked pretty interesting -- but ultimately I decided to pass. I keep thinking back to it, though, and wonder if I made a mistake that I should go remedy. The reviews on Amazon, et al sure make it sound good.
