It looks to me that pursuing this topic could quickly take us way off course. We are concerned with books that actually do get published and not with the writing courses that people may or may have not taken.
Disagreements on hardboiled and noir can be fruitful, but discussing the merits of various writing programs (especially as the discussions get personal, as in this case) is something else entirely. And this is not the place for discussing the failures of the academic system and the literary establishment. Let's discuss what actually gets published.
