Mario, we'll never know--although I'm sure his advance for this dwarfs
all his previous advances. But no matter his motivation, I agree, a
near impossible task without disappointing many Maltese Falcon fans. I
mean, think about it, he's trying to write a sequel for arguably the
greatest crime novel ever written, so the odds are great that what he
ends up will pale in comparison to the original no matter good it
might be.
