Joe Gores is a fully-realized artist, who has proven, I think, respect for Hammett and his legacy not least with the novel HAMMETT.

Whatever the flaws of this pastiche, I suspect the desire to churn out a buck-hustle was not among them.

I haven't read it, but, like Mario, I look forward to doing so.
