    Jeff,

    I've only read one or two short stories by Sale, but his sea-faring novel about escaped convicts, NOT TOO NARROW, NOT TOO DEEP (1936, IIRC) is very good, even though there's a religious element everyone doesn't like or accept (it's not preached upon reader, though).

    I should think this book is a thriller, in the original sense.
