    Although it has taken quite a lot of critic's jabs down the years, I think HAMMETT is a very enjoyable, cruelly under-rated film.

    Is the movie any good? I recall liking the novel, though it has been quite a while.

    Swedish TV ran a Wim Wenders retrospective a while ago - PARIS, TEXAS and THE AMERICAN FRIEND and a bunch of others, but not HAMMETT unfortunately.

    Ross Thomas even has a cameo role in HAMMETT. He's a poker player, I believe, though it's been years since I saw the movie.
