    true noir by any definition, narrated in voice over by a dead man found floating face down in a swimming pool at the beginning of the story.  made in the 50s, still as contemporary a story about Hollywood as a season of Entourage, if Vinny Chase turned gigolo.  starring the great William Holden, a creepy Gloria Swanson and a small role by a hyper Jack Webb before he turned dour L.A. detective

    one of the best movies ever made.  period.  feel free to go ahead and skip it
