Will Murray, literary executor for the Lester Dent estate, posted this at the PulpMags Yahoo group. He gave permission for me to post here:

<< I'm pleased to announce that I've just sold an unpublished Lester Dent story to editor Otto Penzler for the forthcoming BLACK LIZARD BOOK OF BLACK MASK STORIES.

Written for Joe Shaw in 1936, Dent was forced to revise this story again and again. The final version featured Oscar Sail and was called "Sail."

While this version is roughly the same storyline, the hero is very, very different from the Oscar Sail we all know. Dent himself preferred this version, and so does Otto.

Since Dent wrote only 2 Sail stories for BLACK MASK (a third "Cay" was abandoned when Shaw left the magazine) and they are often anthologized as among the magazine's best stories, this is an event.

       Look for "Luck" next year.
