Stevens is one of two authors Paul Duncan chose as representing the period from 1960 to 1978 in his Pocket Essentials guide to Noir Fiction
(along with Willeford). This, and old recommendations from miker, led me to pick up a few of his books when I ran across used copies, Dead City, By Reason of Insanity and Rat Pack, but I have yet to read them. Glancing at Duncan's summary of his career, I see he also wrote two PI books as JW Rider, Jersey Tomatoes and Hot Tickets. I have those, too, but didn't know they were Stevens (haven't read those either).
