The book is highly recommended--did Charles Williams ever write a really bad book? The movie is well worth seeing, but with one reservation. For about the first 87 minutes, it's an excellent & astonishing faithful adaptation of Williams's book--even a lot of the dialog is taken from the novel. Unfortunately, it would have had to be 2 1/2 hours or so to finish the book, so the ending is sudden, abrupt, and disappointing. Sigh.

But man, that Julie London. Were Jack Webb & Bobby Truop lucky bastards or what?
