    Hi all:
     
       Roderick Thorp also wrote "The Detective," a classic which was made into a movie starring Frank Sinatra.
     
       I interviewed Thorp for The Associated Press back in the mid-80s and found him to be an interesting, friendly fellow. The thing that still sticks in my mind was his work habit: He said he wrote while sprawled on his sofa, watching blaring daytime TV.
