One of the chapters in the excellent Hardboiled Hollywood (Max Decharne) is about In A Lonely Place. It begins: " 'In A Lonely Place' is one hell of a film, and one hell of a book, but apart from the title and the names of several characters, they have virtually nothing in common with each other."
