OH YEAH!!!!
MICHAEL CLAYTON and especially EASTERN PROMISES!!!!
What a great year, over all, for crime films, that we (I)
could forget films what any other year would probably spring
immediately to mind.
A few more lost weekends and Clooney will be able to truly
unleash his inner noir. As it is, his puppy dog eyes almost
nail MICHAEL CLAYTON... but not quite.
As for EASTERN PROMISES, I found Croneberg's HISTORY OF
VIOLENCE vaguely disappointing (although I seem to recall I
liked the graphic novel) but PROMISES was great! (Full
disclosure: Croneberg is Canadian).
The cigarette out on the tongue?
That's gotta be one of the all-time classic HB moments in
film, right up there with Paul Newman's "No need to turn
around-- I've already seen it" shrug in THE DROWNING
POOL.
