Prose-wise I recommend Fantomas by Marcel Allain and Pierre
Souvestre
French supercriminal novel. Heavy infouence on the
surrealists and the direct inspiration for Diabolik! Holds up
pretty well I think.
Also (though I'm not sure which titles) I understand that
some of Edgar Wallace's "Krimmis" were an influence on the
filmed giallo.
