***************************************************** I would call GONE WITH THE WIND a noir novel. Scarlett is the 19th Century prototype of MILDRED PIERCE, although she's smarter and less easily conned than Mildred. Then there's a bunch of Frank Yerby novels like THE FOXES OF HARROW & FAIROAKS that are absolutely 19th Century noir. And there's Paul I. Wellman's books like THE IRON MISTRESS, with very noir plot lines and resolutions.
