Chandler says in one of his letters that author's photos
should never be printed in with the book. The reader would
always be disappointed. (I remembered this when I reviewed a
book by Joseph Finder and took a look at his website.)
Then again, you may remember that Joseph Brodsky said that he
knew he'd like the books of Samuel Beckett when he saw the
man's photo - Brodsky hadn't read any at that point!
