RARA-AVIS: Chandler and photographs

Chandler says in one of his letters that author's photos should never be printed in with the book. The reader would always be disappointed. (I remembered this when I reviewed a book by Joseph Finder and took a look at his website.)

Then again, you may remember that Joseph Brodsky said that he knew he'd like the books of Samuel Beckett when he saw the man's photo - Brodsky hadn't read any at that point!
