"I haven't read The Cold Six Thousand yet, but I thought
American Tabloid was an instant classic of American
literature (not just crime literature), and I don't think I'm
alone in that."
I know many who agree with you, but I'm with Mario. American
Tabloid, which, as a big fan, I rushed to buy in hardback
(something I do with very few authors), totally put me off
Ellroy. I felt it took what I once thought was so great about
him and turned it into schtick. Had no interest at all in
continuing on to the next, and can't imagine how many
absolute raves any future book of his would have to get to
make me even think about picking it up as a cheap used
paperback.
