I think it's natural for lists that reflect personal taste to
omit certain authors. I read mostly pre-1970 fiction, so
there are authors whose work comes later whom I've never
read. But you know, I feel as though I'm an expert on writers
of the 40s, 50s and 60s, so my opinion has some value. You
can't include authors you've never read and nobody has read
them all.
