Goodis is such a strong writer that it's easy to overlook the
outlandishness in some of his books. When he's on, it's great
stuff-- kind of a cold iciness that grips you. The recent
Hard Case reprint, The Wounded & the Slain, though, was
probably one that shouldn't have been brought back.
