Crichton has written crime fiction under his own name
(RISING SUN), as John Lange (he got an Edgar nomination in the PBO categogy for GRAVE DESCEND, IIRC), and at least once as "Jeffrey Hudson" (the name for which he was awarded the 1968 Edgar for Best Novel, A CASE OF NEED).

He may have written crime fiction under other names as well.

Trivia note. One of his "John Langes," a rather tidy thriller called BINARY, was made into a TV-movie in the '70's. Crichton directed the film version under his own name.
