Just got back from a week in San Francisco where I always
make a point of stopping at City Lights where they have an
interesting selection of hardboiled crime fiction with the
smaller presses well represented. I don't know any other
bookstore that would have a David Goodis display. Anyway I
picked up the following:
The Prone Gunman - Jean-Patrick Manchette (City Lights) Leave
Her to Heaven - Ben Ames Williams (Chicago Review Press)
Something in the Shadows/Intimate Victims - Vin Paker (Stark
House) Bunny Lake is Missing - Evelyn Piper (Feminist Press
(CUNY))
I started Leave Her to Heaven because I'd finished the book I
brought with me (The Vengence Man by Dan J Marlowe). There is
a blurb on the cover that says it was a number 1 bestseller.
Any comments on these would be welcome. I assume they are all
good.
Jeff
