I might be shot down for posting about a film, which is now a no-no, and for quoting a blurb fron the Village Voice, a publication not appreciated by rara-avians, but here goes: the NY Film Forum is showing a masterpiece of post-war "brit noir", IT ALWAYS RAINS ON SUNDAY. Here's the blurb: "A MASTERPIECE... Highly inventive in its use of flashbacks and multiple overlapping narratives, and brilliantly acted by Withers and McCallum... A SPRAWLING, ALTMANESQUE TAPESTRY... Hamer might have been one of the major figures in modern British cinema. As things stand, It Always Rains on Sunday is a major work, badly in need of rediscovery." The "altmanesque" epithet will tickle a few rara avians' ears... Jean-Pierre Jacquet
