RARA-AVIS: Trying to remember an author/title

I'm seeking help from fellow Avians.

In the Fall of 2005, I read a collection of hard-boiled short stories and I'm trying to recall the author. Most of the stories were set in rural New England and the book was blurbed by George Pelecanos.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?
