One has to marvel at the automnal production of Cormac McCarthy, now in his mid seventies and writing with this kind of distilled ultrahardboiledness. No mellowing out, fortunately! Other than the overdue Nobel for Ray Bradbury (probably won't happen), it seems that the next American Nobel should be McCarthy. People all over the world are getting into his stuff. And movies help, of course.
