The chapter on San Francisco in my book, Into The Badlands, included a long interview with the delightful Joe Gores, conducted in the spring of 1989. You can read the Gores part of the chapter online here (in shamefully un-proof-read form) - www.backtothebadlands.com It starts with a long italicized quote in which Gores describes the making of the movie Hammett.
