Ed,
what I wrote wasn't certainly the normal procedure. Usually
the translator is good or at least competent and the book is
translated from the original language (if possible, this gets
difficult if there are no, for example, people who speak
fluently Polish or Vietnamese). The Finnish paperback
publishers of the 1950-1970's weren't always very
professional and they did everything as cheaply as possible.
Hence there may be glitches in the translations. The
comparing with the original work is pretty tiresome and would
take time and money.
