RARA-AVIS: On translations

Ed,

what I wrote wasn't certainly the normal procedure. Usually the translator is good or at least competent and the book is translated from the original language (if possible, this gets difficult if there are no, for example, people who speak fluently Polish or Vietnamese). The Finnish paperback publishers of the 1950-1970's weren't always very professional and they did everything as cheaply as possible. Hence there may be glitches in the translations. The comparing with the original work is pretty tiresome and would take time and money.

Juri
