I love Altman's take with The Long Goodbye. I do suggest that you seek out his film California Split. There is no real plot to speak of. But it flows very nicely like The Long Goodbye. Plus its George Segal and Elliot Gould playing to degenerate gamblers. Long before the poker craze.
