How about Ed Brubaker's Coward (very Dan Marlowe-esque) and Bendis' Goldfish and Jinx. I believe those could give you a taste of what these writers are all about. Pure quality noir, especially Brubaker. If you have doubts, I suggest that you go to your nearest bookstore and read the first few pages (Coward should be in any of the big chain stores). BTW, I I should also mention 100 Bullets from Vertigo, probably the best crime comic in years. You should check it out too. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
