Actually, the best evidence available, based on research
conducted by OPPONENTS of capital punishment, is that every
murderer who's executed prevents, on the average at least six
murders, and the sooner after conviction the execution takes
place, the more murders are deterred.
This was exactly the opposite of what the researchers hoped
to prove.
