RE : RARA-AVIS: Chester Himes question

A gross error in my message: you have to note THE FIVE CORNERED SQUARE as the exact title of the novel.
If four, it looses it ironic signification.

"E. Borgers" < webeurop@yahoo.fr> a 飲it :
All Chester Himes novels published first in France by S鲩e Noire were written in English and translated for the French publication. You may find traces of this in his autobiogrphy. Himes did not even speak French fluently when he was there. FOR LOVE OF IMMABELLE, had another title at the time: THE FOUR CORNERED SQUARE, that became "La reine des pommes" in French (=approx: Queen of the suckers).

As a matter of fact, Gallimard republished all the 8 novels with the Harlem cops duo in a single volume, with a revised French translation this month ( in their Quarto imprint).
