RARA-AVIS: Whatever happened to rye?

Others have already said it, but it's worth repeating. Rye is making a comeback. Rittenhouse is a very good brand that can be found in liquor stores, and I've had it in bars on both coasts. My current watering hole in Seattle specializes in rye, and the bartenders there introduced me to an array of fine cocktails in addition to the Sazerac that feature it, like the Red Hook and the Greenpoint. Why they're named after neighborhoods in Brooklyn, I have no idea.
