I read this many years ago when it appeared and recall little
about it other than an intense dislike. I believe Amis was
trying to create a post-modern look at hard-boiled fiction
but merely managed to throw a bunch of stereotypes together
into a smug wink at the genre. But that's going on my
probably faulty memory.
