Can't go wrong with any of the Cotton Ed and Gravedigger Jones books. As is usually my way, I went through them in order, but I doubt anything would be lost by reading them out of order, as you find them. I keep meaning to read other books by Himes. I think Run Man Run is the only standalone I've read, though I have End of the Primitive (highly recommended by Sallis, among others) and Pinktoes (which Sallis's Lew Griffin read in Long Legged Fly).

Oh, speaking of "read by Lew Griffin," he mentions a book called Black No More by a guy named Schuyler. Has anyone read it? Any good?
