RARA-AVIS: Chandler and John Evans

Oops, sorry for the blank email, hit send by accident.

Anyway, I was aware of Mallory and Dalmas being earlier names of Chandler's detective, but I didn't know (since I had previously read them all with the detective renamed Marlowe) or had forgotten that the detective's name was John Evans in No Crime in the Mountains, from 1941. Given how much Howard Browne obviously studied Chandler's work for his Paul Pines novels, could that be where he took his pseudonym from for that series, which began in 1946 with Halo in Blood?
