Wambaugh's always been less concerned with how cops work on
the Job than with how the Job works (which is to say,
psychologically affects) the cops.
That's no less true of THE CHOIR BOYS than it is of THE ONION
FIELD. However, THE CHOIR BOYS is fiction and THE ONION FIELD
non-fiction.
If you want accurate depictions of police procedure, well,
Wambaugh delivers on that, but he usually doesn't dwell on
it.
He's always been more concerned with character.
That said, you might like his non-fiction books THE BLOODING,
about the first case solved with DNA profiling, and FIRE
LOVER, about a firefighter/cop who was a serial arsonist in
Southern California, and his latest fiction novel, HOLLYWOOD
STATION.
