I've now read four by Stansberry, and The Confession was my
least favorite. I just never felt any of the uncertainty or
suspense I thought I was supposed to -- in other words, it
felt like the main character was just trying to fool the
reader, not that he was fooling himself. The Last Days of Il
Duce is my favorite of the four.
As for Big Boom, if you're as anal as I am about reading
series in order, there is a previous Dante Mancuso book,
Chasing the Dragon. I don't think it's really necessary for
the understanding of Big Boom, but it is also a very good
book, though a bit different from its follow-up. Dante is an
operative for a secret organization, not a PI. Is there going
to be a third Dante Mancuso book? I keep meaning to check
Stansberry's website.
