Way back in 1978, in the crossover novel TWOSPOT, on which
Pronzini collaborated with Collin Wilcox (and Pronzini's
"Nameless" collaborated with Wilcox's SFPD Homicide Liutenant
Frank Hastings), Hastings refers to
"Nameless" as "Bill."
That was mainly because it was difficult for Wilcox, in the
parts of the novel narrated by his character, to refer to
Prnozini's character without referring to him by name.
