Don't encourage me, guys!
Here's another recent discovery: Erskine Caldwell's novella,
THE BASTARD (1929). I think this was his first-published
longer work. Much of Caldwell's work isn't noir. This fella
is. Very much so. Highly transgressive.

I'll second that sentiment. I've read dozens of
books Al has
recommended, some of them pretty obscure, which
involved some serious
hunting to find. But it almost always pays
off.
