This makes me think of the story (quite possibly urban
legend) that the hip hop fashion of droopy pants and shoes
with no laces was based on gangstas whose belts and laces had
been taken in jail/prison. It always made me wonder, if
you're going to imitate a criminal, why imitate the
unsuccessful ones who had been caught?
