What makes Ripley work is precisely that he isn't crazy. He is just missing a part in his emotions called "empathy."

************** I disagree. Empathy involves understanding and entering into another's feelings. Ripley, as a matter of fact, is fairly good at this. A significant part of the novel concerns his analysis of the motivation and emotions of the other characters.

Ripley is able to murder because he is immoral.
