Regarding Norman Mailer's use of "fug" as an expletive in
"The Naked and the Dead": After the book came out and had
some success, Mailer was introduced to a New York society
woman at a cocktail party, and supposedly she said to him
something like "Oh, yes, you're the young man who can't spell
f**k."
