>An essential ingredient of what made the Chandler books so good is the acid wit.Clive Owen shows quite a few flashes of dark wit in CHILDREN OF MEN. In that movie, he's certainly going down mean streets while not himself being mean.My favorite movie Marlowe to date is Dick Powell in MURDER, MY SWEET. There's something about his song-and-dance man's jauntiness that's perfectly suited to the character. Hollywood could go that route again and cast Hugh Jackman in the role. Anybody who can play Wolverine has proven tough guy bona fides. And he's interested in the genre, having snapped up James Sallis' DRIVE to star in himself.Vince Keenanwww.vincekeenan.comPop culture, high and low, past and present. One day at a time.
