call Daly a good writer. I wouldn't call Harriett Beecher
Stowe a good writer either, and yet she wrote a book that
rocked the English-speaking world and is still today
considered a literary classic. Of course, all Daly did was
invent the hardboiled genre, but it's still a distinction. Of
sorts.
