  Thanks for your answer on my question about the pioneers of hard-boiled gangster novel! Probably W.R.Burnett was the first. But D.H.Clarke have also one book about New York's underworld - "In The Reign of Rothstein" (1923). I don't know is it hard-boiled novel or documentary essay?
