I'm not sure why the assertion was made. It's nowhere near
his first short story, his first hard-boiled story, or his
first entry in the Continental Op series.
In fact, it's first publication was about seven years after
the Op series got started with "Arson Plus."
I think the writer who made that statement was just in
error.
