Paul Auster's New York Trilogy is most certainly postmodern
and noir, some of it hardboiled.
I'd add that Jack O'Connell's Quinsigamond series and much of
Sallis's work exhibit postmodern elements. Those are ones I
like. Steve Aylett probably also fits, but what I've read of
him was a bit too gimmicky and cute for my taste.
As for a definition of postmodernism, I'll go with what
Potter Stewart said about porn, I can't define it, but I know
it when I see it.
