RARA-AVIS: Hardboiled liquor

Wanted to get a general consensus as to roughly about what time period bourbon replaced rye as the liquor of choice in hardboiled crime fiction. Currently reading Williams' Hill Girl (just finished River Girl) from 1951 and it still seems to be rye then.
