Back in April 2002 (over four years ago now!) Mr. Dante and
Mr. Blumenthal took votes for the best characters from books
and stories. The top 100 ended up having 111 names on it,
with the top five being Philip Marlowe, Sam Spade, The
Continental Op, Lew Archer, and Matthew Scudder and Parker
tied at five. For easy reference I put the whole list
