The ones who blew me off the road with their stories and writing have been Thompson, Willeford and Ellroy.

************** Well, it don't get much better than that. A belated welcome to you.

I would recommend Cain's Postman, Gresham's Nightmare Alley, and Anderson's Thieves Like Us. I think that all three of these are available in one volume, too, if you are interested. Those are noirs. If you are interested in the hardboiled detective, Hammett's Maltese Falcon and Chandler's The Big Sleep are considered classic for a damned good reason. Of course, you've heard all this before if you've been reading the list for two years. But it's always worth repeating.
